With over 80 years in the homebuilding and construction industry, M & J Ballantyne Ltd is able to sustain this level of success through the contribution of our team. Our team is led by a number of key people who help to ensure that the business continues to go from strength to strength.
Managing Director
Michael Ballantyne
Since 1981 Michael has worked with M & J Ballantyne during school holidays and after 3 years studying at Napier University, joined the Company full time in 1990. He was appointed a Director in 1992 and subsequently Managing Director in 2003.
Michael is involved in all aspects of the future planning and the day to day operation of the business and ensures a frequent personal presence on site to oversee all contracts and private house building during the build process.

Joanna Ballantyne
Starting a career in design and travelling to London and abroad for 5 years, Jo decided to work closer to home and was offered the position of Property Manager with Taits solicitors here in Kelso. The role involved setting up and branding of a whole new property sales division of the long established solicitor business.
Jo then moved to M & J Ballantyne Ltd to look after their rental portfolio, set up and design show homes, new marketing, I.T and new business and was made a Director in September 2013.

Grant Davidson
Grant began his career in construction training as a Quantity Surveyor in private practice before moving into the contracting sector. During his time in contracting Grant has worked as a general building contractor and mechanical services contractor on some prestigious buildings in the Borders and Edinburgh.
Grant joined M & J Ballantyne Ltd in 1999 as a Quantity Surveyor working on larger construction projects and was promoted to a Director in 2013.
During his time with M & J Ballantyne Ltd he has undergone professional development to gain qualifications in Health and Safety, AutoCAD and Construction Management to provide a more complete knowledge to the successful management and delivery of construction projects.
Grant is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building.
Surveyor
Alan Oliver
Alan has a number of years contracting experience working with the Local Authority prior to joining M&J Ballantyne in 2016.
Since joining M&J Ballantyne, Alan has been heavily involved in prestigious contracts such as Roxburgh Street Flats, Angraflat Housing Scheme, Lloyd Motors Refurbishments and most recently, Former Kelso High School renovation project.
Alan has also successfully completed his SVQ Level 5 in Senior Construction Management. Out of work, Alan enjoys spending time with the family, going on little cycle ‘tours’ and has a passion for outdoor cooking.
Surveyor
Michael Graham
Michael was previously employed as a commercial assistant at one of Scotland’s largest Timber Frame Manufacturers where his main duties were producing material take offs and purchasing.
He joined M&J Ballantyne in April 2016 and started studying Construction Management at Telford College for 2 years before attending Edinburgh Napier University for 4 years where he gained a degree in Construction & Project Management (with distinction).
Now running contracts and looking after construction of private housing. CSCS Card holder.
