The Distillery Won the Borders Design Award in the Works to Existing Building (non-residential) category and the architects won the Architects Journal Heritage award for 2018.

Conversion of a former engineering workshop and offices into a distillery and visitor centre.

Main Contract Works:

Installation of new concrete floors and foundations for the distillation equipment, asbestos removal, new steel frame and metal clad gable ends housing large roller shutter access doors, forming openings through existing stone walls for ventilation grilles and shop windows, stripping and re-slating the roofs, replacement of roof lights, stone repairs and pointing.

The construction of a flood protected steel portal framed boiler house, new incoming gas and electricity services and full mechanical and electrical works suitable for an explosive environment.

Process water for the distillery is obtained from the River Teviot, this involved the installation of large bore pipework below the A7 trunk road leading to and from the abstraction and discharge points within the river bed.

The visitor centre is formed from the office block of the previous occupier, this is extended with new glazed entrance which includes a metal staircase, passenger lift and high quality finishings throughout.

The service yard is improved with new surface coats and paving and the site is secured with new palisade fencing and automatic gates.
